Position Available at the Center for English Education and Development, Saitama University

The Center for English Education and Development at Saitama University invites applications for the following position teaching English.

1. Position: Assistant Professor (1 opening)

2. Affiliation: The Center for English Education and Development, Saitama University

3. Terms of Contract: Five (5) years with option to renew once (10 years total)

4. Duties:

(1) Teach undergraduate-level English courses, including Preparation for TOEIC, Academic Speaking, Academic Writing, Academic Lecture, Basic English, Academic Communication Skills, and Academic Essay Writing.
(2) Assist in designing and developing course curricula.
(3) Assist in designing and producing teaching materials.
(4) Advise students in the English Resource Center within the Center for English Education and Development, which provides a meeting area devoted to conversation, tutoring, and extracurricular activities for students who wish to supplement their English studies.
(5) Perform other academic and administrative responsibilities as needed.

5. Starting Date: April 1, 2012

6. Required Qualifications:
(1) Applicants should have an MA and/or a PhD. Preference will be given to applicants with degrees in TESOL, English Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
(2) Applicants should be native English speakers.
(3) Applicants should have basic proficiency in Japanese (reading and speaking) in order to be able to deal with daily administrative duties.
(4) A minimum of 3 years EFL teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
(5) Experience in training and advising students in the areas of international academic exchange and preparation for English language proficiency tests (TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, etc.) strongly desired.

(5) Two (2) letters of recommendation
(6) A short essay on the candidate's motives for applying and his/her educational philosophy, which should include the applicant's views and vision of his/her role in our self-access center (the ERC). Part-Time University Instructor Urgently Needed at Saitama University

Part-time Teaching Position (University Level)

The Center for English Education and Development (CEED) at Saitama University calls interested parties to apply for a PART-TIME teaching position, starting April 2011. Applicants should fulfill the following requirements:

  1. be a native speaker of English
  2. possess a MA degree at the time of application
  3. have experience teaching at tertiary level
  4. be available to teach 3 Preparation for TOEIC level 2 classes on Mondays (9:00 AM-4:10 PM)
  5. have three or more publications to his/her name (articles, papers, textbooks, etc.)
