Preparing Students for Speech Contests

Date and Time:
Sunday, 26 February 2012 - 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Speaker:
Justin Hunt

Preparing students for speech contests is a part of many language teachers' jobs in Japan, especially in junior and senior high schools. There is very little practical information available however on how to do this. This workshop will present the system this experienced teacher uses. It will cover methods to help students write speeches, memorization techniques, and how to improve their pronunciation. It will also show how the presenter teaches the basic principles of good public speaking. The presenter will share his own experiences and show video examples of students' speeches. The workshop will also be of interest to those who on occasion judge speech contests.
