This book points to shocking rates of teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and violence (500,000 attacks/shakedowns/robberies a month in US schools) and criticizes teaching approaches that tell youth any value system is OK if it feels right. It argues that the way to encourage moral growth is character education with an emphasis on good example and habits. The book gives suggestions for what parents and schools can do, and lists 100 books for children that transmit moral values.

Educating for a Peaceful Future

This introduction to the field of peace education traces the growth of interest in peace and peace education over the past century, examines the results of peace research and looks at how school subjects can be taught to promote both peacemaking and peacebuilding. The authors discuss how to crate a peaceful school environment and make linkages with the community and the wider world. A chapter by global educators Graham Pike and David Selby lists 26 peace education activities for the classroom.

Developing the Global Teacher:
Theory and Practice in Teacher Education
