Suggestions:
- Ask students to respond in their journals (three or four times during the course of the unit) about the unit of work they are currently studying (Table 2).
- Students use their journals as a 'learning log' in which they record what they have learnt each week in class, reflect and comment on it.
- Students keep a scrapbook journal of news clippings, songs, pictures, etc. relevant to the current theme of study and respond to each scrapbook item.
- Have students complete a questionnaire at the beginning of a course regarding their expectations, or feelings about studying English.
- Prepare a detailed questionnaire for students to complete at the end of a course as formal feedback about the course.
- At the end of a lesson issue students with small scraps of paper and have them quickly write one or two sentences about a particular activity they just did.
